Building Physics is the decisive factor for successful building! The tasks of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP focus on research, development, testing, demonstration and consultation in the fields of building physics. Among these tasks are e.g. noise control and noise control measures in buildings, the optimization of acoustics in auditoria, measures to improve energy efficiency and optimization of lighting technology, problems of indoor climate, hygiene, health protection and emissions from building materials as well as aspects of thermal, hygrothermal and weather protection, the conservation of buildings and the preservation of monuments and historic buildings.

Within the Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance the IBP is particularly responsible for

  • low-energy houses
  • zero energy houses
  • zero energy housing estates
  • renovation concepts for buildings
  • façade systems
  • heating, ventilation and solar systems
  • hybrid systems
  • storage systems and energy supply systems
  • lighting technology
  • total energy balance
