The tool for civil risk analysis in urban areas.

The VITRUV software integrates security aspects directly into the urban planning process. Employed already at the city’s concept level, VITRUV renders more sustainable and more robust cities. This software also enables the identification of weak spots in existing urban areas.
The vulnerability analysis comprises various procedures. In a first step, an empirical risk analysis evaluates the susceptibility of certain areas by processing historical data. Statistical frequencies are visualized with respect to the kind of threat, the threatened object, the region and the exposition. Following this, the possible damage can be calculated by means of a validated physical engineering model conducting quantitative risk analysis. This way, highly diverse kinds of scenarios, e.g., earthquakes, explosions or terroristic attacks, can be viewed.
Different kinds of criteria as the number of persons affected or structural or monetary damage can be retrieved for the building and for elements of the transportation infrastructure. Various kinds of protective measures are implemented and render the enhancement of urban resilience possible, meaning robustness of cities against disturbances. Furthermore, these measures offer decision makers a basis with respect to cost-benefit analysis.
