Shanghai Hongqiao Low Carbon Business Demonstration District

The Low-Carbon Business Center in Hongqiao defines itself through the sustainability factors urban planning, traffic planning and energy production. The project analyzes the status quo of the location, the scale and the surrounding conditions of the block and proposes a design scheme which controls the requirements of the form development, the spatial intention, the facades and the environmental landscape of the urban space.

SBA applied for the advanced LCI-EEC (Low-Carbon-Index System) for the developing of a low-carbon guideline and index for the area layout, the transportation and renewable energy system and the building technology. Simultaneously a veritable low-carbon business district demonstration model based on the low-carbon guidelines and plans was built up.
2011 the project received the Design Award from the "China Association of City Planning" for excellent urban and rural planning.

Energy System:

For energy supply of the project area (1,44 km2), SBA planned 6 decentralized Energy Centers in form of cogeneration units (BHKW). Through the utilization of gas, private and public users are provided with electrical and thermal energy. The power units don’t just serve as a heating source, but also serve as a cooling.
