Urban climatology analysis for the city of Kunshan, China

In the scope of urban planning for Kunshan to become a Green City, two typical Kunshan building constellations were analyzed with regard to outdoor thermal comfort. The study was based on simulations of radiation and fluid dynamics. The simulation models were created on the basis of a zonal flow or radiation solver, which has been developed at Fraunhofer IBP. Input data included air speed, turbulences, temperatures, direct and diffuse radiation data from the urban climatology analysis and geometrical information on the typical building constellations selected. The virtual human model RAMSIS was used for visualization. Simulation results were analyzed and evaluated by Fraunhofer IBP scientists, based on thermal comfort models and statistical analyses of test subject interviews.
