Semi-decentralized urban water management system

In a development area with 105 plots, a semi-decentralized water management concept has been demonstrated with the goal to recycle as much water, energy, and nutrients as possible. Wastewater from the houses is collected with a vacuum sewer system together with kitchen waste, while the rainwater is treated and can be used as service water in the houses. The wastewater is treated anaerobically; the obtained biogas is a renewable source for energy. The treated wastewater can be used for irrigation and fertilization in urban agriculture.
