Fraunhofer Building Innovation AllianceThe overall city structure of West Hongqiao regards Zhuguang Road and Pan Long Road as its North-South direction core development area and structural point and Xuming Road and HuQingPing Road as its East-West direction main axis. It is connected to the Hongqiao comprehensive hub, the Hongqiao Business core zone and the National Convention and Exhibition Center. Based on the original city structure, some secondary city points along the major roads and areas were added, to create a clear-structure and an appropriate developed city layout network. The project uses the Idea of a Sponge City for the whole green landscape area, the urban external space and the building roofs in order to generate a low side-effects development and to create a well distributed rainwater recycling system.
The core area is located on the west side of the National Convention and Exhibition Center, where it will support the West Hongqiao area and the National Convention Center and in the future. Furthermore the project includes business, leisure and entertainment, headquarter office, hotel, exhibition space and other functions. The West Hongqiao Business Area encourages the low-carbon traffic such as innovative public transportation, bicycle and walking. The design recommends bicycle and bus-transfer-points combined with rail-transit-sites located along the main landscape axis such as Xuming Road.
